Position Description

A Mechanical Technician maintains and repairs all mechanical equipment in assigned geographical area. May install and replace small diameter piping and fittings associated with mechanical equipment. May handle installation or modification of new mechanical equipment.

Position Requirements

1. Maintain and repair centrifugal pumps, reciprocating pumps, gear pumps, and diaphragm pumps.

2. Replace bearing in mainline pumps and electric motors.

3. Replace seals in mainline pumps.

4. Place and align electrical motors for pumping units.

5. Conduct pump efficiency , interpret results, and recommend appropriate action.

6. Install, repair and adjust pipeline valves.

7. Install, turbine meters, calibrate turbine meter prover systems. Maintain and repair positive displacement meters.

8. Install, maintain, and repair hydraulic valve actuators and hydraulic control systems for pressure reducing valves, pressure relief valves and back-pressure valves.

9. Calibrate mechanical pressure gauges and mercury line thermometers.

10. Maintain and repair tank level gauging equipment.

11. Maintain and repair air compressors.

12. Hydrostatically test air tanks if needed.

13. Maintain and repair internal combustion engines if necessary.

14. Modify or install small diameter drain piping to oil/water separators and sumps.

15. Repair and maintain small tools and service equipment.

17. Budget and procure parts and tools when necessary.

18. Provides HAZWOPER support and is involved in emergency response activities.

19. Provides assistance in repairing, maintenance, and operation of all equipment and right of way.

20. Participates in the training of O & M personnel.

21. Install and repair electric valve operations.

22. May be required to handle basic electrical, right of way, operational, and general maintenance duties.
